The first samplers created in the Netherlands date probably from the first half of the 16th c.One the first pattern books was printed and published in 1523 in the Netherlands by Johann Schonsperger. The oldest Dutch sampler we know is part of the collection of the merklappenmuseum in Dieteren (the Netherlands) and dates from 1572.
