John Vansommer
(1705-1774)
John Vansommer (1705- 1774) is a well-known Huguenot silk-designers of Spitafield and partner in the firm of Ogier, Vansonner & Triquet of Spital square. He is of particular interest to the Huguenot Society as the forefather of William Van Sommer (1 859-1 941) who was, of course, one of the founder members of the Huguenot Society of London . John was of Huguenot stock on both sides. There exists a letter written by Voltaire to Vansommer in 1768.
